When it comes to labels the following are the basic specification we’ll need to get you a custom quote, whether it starts with one of our stock label products or is completely custom from start to finish.
Order Quantity for Label Quote
This is the starting point for all custom label projects and don’t worry if you don’t know the exact quantity we can alway quote several quantities at the same time to give you a range both in options as well as pricing. Often while a smaller quantity may be more expensive in the short term it’s better to test out a custom label solution then invest heavily and find out it’s not right for the challenges you are encountering.
Label Materials
There is a plethora of label materials available from your traditional paper or weather resistant vinyl labels to the more exotic silver holographic films or tamper evident style. Adhesive customization is available to match your labeling needs. The most common is a permanent adhesive label, but if you need the labels to be weatherproof, freezer grade or removable those options are all available. Thermal and direct thermal have specific material needs and are available in both paper and synthetic films such as vinyl or polypropylene for durability.
Label Size and Shape
While this would seem to be an easy question, size and shape in this case matter. It’s no secret that smaller labels are going to be less expensive that larger labels so we’ll look for the most cost effective labeling solution to fits the project. Often square, rectangle and circle labels are all available in a wide range of sizes, but if you need a custom shape that doesn’t fit into your standard shapes we’ll look to create a custom die to cut the labels into a fit that works for you.
Labels on Rolls or Single Cut
When your label project is delivered to you there are a number of formats available. For smaller decal runs where screen printing on vinyl is the best solution the labels are typically will be delivered as cut singles where each label is on it’s own sheet. Longer runs labels are often delivered in rolls were hand applied labels the rolls will typically be 500 or 1,000 per roll. For machine applied labels the rolls can hold thousands of labels depending on the overall size and capacity of the label application equipment.
If you know the core size or overall diameter that your equipment requires let us know and we’ll work those options into the quote specifications. If you know the model of the labeling equipment we can contact the manufacturer to look up this information for you. Additionally options available include perforations between each label on a roll for easy tear off as needed. For custom thermal transfer or direct thermal labels the printer model’s manufacturer often lists online the core and outside diameter the specific printer can handle.
Number of Colors for Printed Labels
Labels can be blank or pre-printed with static text and graphics or variable Bar Codes and numbering. When printing is involved we can produce labels with a simple one color imprint to the more complex multiple color including full color images utilizing four color process. Need a color match? You can send us a sample to match or provide a Pantone match color (PMS number). One color will often be the least expensive decorating option, but changes in printing technology make full color printing affordable even with smaller quantities or runs.
Label Artwork
We have a full design and prepress department at our disposal to make sure you get the text, logo or image you need for your label project. Our design team can help setup everything from simple line of text to full color graphics. Already have artwork ready to go? Great, the prepress department will work with your graphics to ensure you get the best printed results on your custom labels. Either way you’ll get a proof to review and approve before the job goes to press.
