Lithium Battery Labels to Meet DOT Shipping Requirements

Are your shipments compliant with new DOT regulations?

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) updated regulations regarding the shipment of lithium batteries. This change was made in August 2014, with a compliance date of February 6, 2015. If you have been shipping lithium batteries for the past month, you may not be compliant with the new regulations.

For packages containing primary lithium batteries, packages are required to be marked with an indication that they contain lithium batteries, and that these lithium batteries are forbidden for transport aboard passenger aircraft. The most common method to indicate this is to include lithium battery labels on the package being shipped. You can view the full regulations at the Federal Register site to read about Hazardous Materials: Harmonization With International Standards (RRR).

You can purchase a number of different lithium battery labels from The Supplies Shops to apply to the packages which contain lithium batteries and may not be allowed to be shipped as they previously had been. Sample text includes, “Primary lithium batteries – forbidden for transport aboard passenger aircraft.”
Many labels are straight text with a warning, but we also offer a highly visible 4-5/8” x 5” Caution! Lithium Battery pictographic label. This easy to seecan help point out packages that may need to be handled or shipped differently. This popular stock paper label comes 500 per roll, and you can save if you order 2 or more rolls. Plus, all order over $99 ship for free.
